greyfade studio  /  mixing, mastering, and post-production

greyfade studio -- located in bushwick, brooklyn -- was conceived and designed as a hybrid mixing, mastering, and post-production suite. with world-class monitoring and optimized acoustics, multiple options for analog summing, a separate capture workstation for mastering, and a handpicked collection of analog outboard gear, instruments, and effects, the studio offers a creative and comfortable space to finish a record.

the room employs a hybrid analog/digital mixing workflow based around two analog summing mixers: the shadow hills equinox and the phoenix nicerizer. these are fed by 32 channels of software outputs and can be addressed independently or in series. multitrack projects are therefore mixed to stereo completely in the analog domain -- providing the headroom and favorable sonics associated with large-format consoles -- while editing, mix automation, and digital processing are handled in software. the stereo mix is printed to an independent workstation running at 96 or 192 kHz for delivery to mastering.

mastering services for CD, vinyl, and high-resolution digital releases are also available. we are certified by apple to produce
mastered for itunes masters.

outboard gear includes tools from neve, chandler, urei, api, manley, thermionic culture, dangerous, and bricasti. on the digital side: a massive collection of plug-ins including the complete uad collection, standalone apps for noise-removal, CD/DDP creation, and more. there’s also a small isolation booth (plus a large assortment of microphones and amplifiers) for tracking vocals, guitars, or solo instruments.

the studio is located one block from the jefferson st. L train stop. for clients not living in the immediate nyc area, mixing and mastering are available as remote services via FTP/file transfer.

“The sound captures every intimate string squeak, fat bass tone, warp-speed ensemble passage, and ghostly vocal swell.” / Stereophile

“Sound engineer and producer Joseph Branciforte creates a delicately balanced band-sound -- throughout the album the band appears as one vibrating sonic body. Hydra is a musical voyage of austere beauty.” / Jazz in Europe

“`Simple' is her best work yet, recorded with two of the best musicians working in New York’s high-concept avant-garde: pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer John Hollenbeck.” / The New York Times

“Binary is one of those rare albums that manage to be super-brainy, yet totally enjoyable from start to finish.” /
All About Jazz

The pieces generate a hurtling tension, flying downhill with inexorable motion, but rarely in a direct line—the performances feel like a deftly choreographed simulacrum of a pinball game.” / Chicago Reader
